BYU gymnasts wrap up regular season with more MRGC accolades

LOGAN, Utah - On Monday, the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference honored three BYU gymnasts with four awards due to their outstanding performances during their last home meet on Saturday.

No. 21 BYU posted a 196.825 to edge out Arizona’s 196.300 at the Smith Fieldhouse on Saturday. This meet was the last competition for the regular season, leaving the Cougars with an overall record of 12-4-1 in 2022. The Cougars will now prepare for the MRGC Championship to be held in Boise, Idaho on March 19.

Senior Sadie Miner-Van Tassell competed for the all-around and matched her career-high score of 39.525 for the third time this season to earn her ninth-straight MRGC Gymnast of the Week award. Miner-Van Tassell finished the season ranked No. 15 in the nation for the all-around. In this same competition, Miner-Van Tassell also posted a 9.925 on vault to take home MRGC Vault Specialist of the Week for the third week in a row. 

Miner-Van Tassell and senior Brittney Vitkauskas again shared the honors for MRGC Floor Specialist of the Week with individual scores of 9.925. The honors kept flowing for the Cougars as Anyssa Alvarado posted a 9.925 on the bars to earn her first MRGC Bars Specialist of the Week honors in the 2022 season. Alvarado’s consistency on the apparatus has led to her scoring a 9.925 six times this year.
