BYU gymnasts rack up more MRGC awards in Week 8

LOGAN, Utah - On Monday, the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference honored three BYU gymnasts with four awards due to their outstanding performances last week. 

No. 14 BYU posted a 196.575 score to edge out the Utah State Aggies (196.225) and the Towson Tigers (195.600) in a tri meet at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum in Logan, Utah, on Friday. The Cougars also competed in a quad meet at Stanford University on Feb. 21 where they posted a 196.525 to finish the night tied for second with the host Stanford.  

Senior Sadie Miner-Van Tassell competed for the all-around in both meets and posted a 39.500 in the Stanford quad meet to earn her seventh-straight MRGC Gymnast of the Week award. In this same competition, Miner-Van Tassell also posted a new career-high score of 9.925 on vault to take home a shared MRGC Vault Specialist of the Week honor with Boise State freshman Alyssa Vulaj. 

Along with Miner-Van Tassell, fellow senior Brittney Vitkasukas scored a 9.950 on her floor routine to take home the MRGC Floor Specialist of the Week. Vitkasukas shared the award with SUU’s Hannah Nipp and USU’s Brie Clark. The mark ties for the sixth-highest floor score in program history.

BYU junior Elease Rollins earned her fourth MRGC Beam Specialist of the Week after achieving a new career high of 9.975 on the balance beam. This score is tied with several other past Cougar gymnasts for the second-highest score on the apparatus in school history.
