10 Gymnasts receive WCGA Scholastic All-American awards
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The BYU gymnastics team had 10 gymnasts named Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association Scholastic All-Americans, the association announced on Wednesday.
To be named a WCGA Scholastic All-American, a gymnast must have a minimum of a 3.5 GPA for the 2020-2021 academic year.
The Cougars combined for a 3.25 GPA, while the 10 WCGA All-Americans earned a 3.5 or higher.
Overall, the association had 58 teams and a record number of student-athletes (1,059) with a GPA of 3.5 or more. Last year there were 889 Scholastic All-America team members, making this the first time with more than 1,000 honorees.
This is the fifth year in a row Angel Zhong has been recognized. Abby Stainton, Helody Cyrenne, Jordan Danbury Matthews, and Abbey Miner Alder are four-time recipients while Rachel Bain Heaton and Brittney Vitkauskas have been named three times.
