14 BYU GYMNASTS EARN ACADEMIC ALL-MRGC HONORS
LOGAN, Utah – Fourteen members of the BYU gymnastics team were named to the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference Academic All-MRGC Team, the league announced on Monday.
To be eligible for the award, the student-athletes were required to have a 3.2 GPA or higher in the 2020-21 academic year.
BYU's 14 Academic All-MRGC honorees helped the Cougars finish the 2021 winter semester with a combined 3.29 GPA as a team. In total, the MRGC recognized 67 student-athletes, led by Southern Utah with 22. Boise State and Utah State followed with 16 honorees each.
“This is quite an accomplishment,” said BYU head coach Guard Young. “These athletes worked extremely hard and had a great season and still found the time to focus on their academics.”
In 2021, BYU finished as the No. 19 team in the nation as they reached new heights with a 196.656 average to improve upon the team's 196.228 average in 2020. The Cougars also maintained their title as the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference Champions for the second year in a row.
