Abbey Miner-Alder collects three MRGC Weekly Awards

LOGAN, Utah - Senior Abbey Miner-Alder walked away from opening week earning three separate accolades from the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference: Gymnast of the Week, Vault Specialist and Floor Specialist.

On Saturday, the all-arounder competed at the Rio Tinto Best of Utah NCAA Gymnastics Meet and achieved the highest marks on three events, topping all scores by MRGC athletes.

Alder started the night with a solid score of 9.800 on the balance beam. Up next, she took the highest score of the night on the floor, earning a 9.900 and MRGC floor specialist in her crowd-pleasing routine. 

BYU took to the vault in rotation three, where Alder continued to shine with a team high of 9.850. This score would earn her MRGC Vault Specialist of the Week. She ended the night with a 9.725 on the uneven bars, racking up a total of 39.275.

Her all-around score was highest in the MRGC, deeming Alder the first MRGC Gymnast of the Week for the 2021 season. The Mapleton, Utah, native finished third in the Best of Utah all-around competition amongst the University of Utah, Southern Utah University and Utah State University. Her solid performances propelled BYU to a second-place finish (195.700), trailing only No. 3-ranked Utah (196.900.)
