Two Cougars repeat as weekly conference honorees
PROVO, Utah — Both Brittni Hawes and Mackenzie Douglas repeated as Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference weekly honorees in Week 8 of competition.
Hawes, a junior from Idaho Falls, Idaho, picked up her third Bars Specialist of the Week award, scoring a 9.925 on the event and capturing the individual title against No. 17 Iowa. The Cougars finished the meet with their highest team score in MRGC history, scoring a 196.425 to the Hawkeyes’ 196.550.
A native of Queen Creek, Ariz., Douglas matched a career-high 9.900 on floor to share Floor Specialist of the Week honors, finishing second on the event against Iowa. Douglas earned Vault Specialist of the Week the first week of the season.
This season, BYU has earned 10 weekly conference awards this season, including two Gymnast of the Week honors. The Cougars have also garnered two specialist honors on vault, four on bars and one on both beam and floor.
BYU travels to Minnesota on Saturday, March 4. The meet begins at 4 p.m. CST.
