PROVO, Utah – BYU women's gymnastics will compete in Minneapolis on April 2 for NCAA regional competition, the NCAA announced on Monday.

"I'm excited for my first regionals as a head coach," BYU head coach Guard Young said. "Our girls are ready and are in good shape. There will be some great teams there and I cannot wait to see how we match up with them. We'll start on vault so it will be a good rotation for us."

The Cougars are one of 36 teams in the nation to make it to one of six regional sites. It is the 25th time in 28 years and seventh-straight time BYU has reached the NCAA regionals. BYU will compete with No. 2 Florida, No. 11 Denver, No. 14 Minnesota, Missouri and Ohio State in the Minneapolis regional.

Last season in regionals, the Cougars finished in sixth place with a 194.100. This year, BYU scored a season-high 196.150 against No. 10 Boise State, Southern Utah and Utah State in the MRGC Championship. The team has posted top team scores of 49.050 on vault, 49.300 on bars, 49.050 on beam and 49.325 on floor.

The top two teams and all-around competitors will advance to the national championships in Fort Worth, Texas, April 15-16, hosted by Texas Women's Univeristy and the Knight Eady Sports Group. The top two teams from the Iowa City, Salt Lake City and Tuscaloosa regionals will compete in one of the semifinals, and the top two teams from the Minneapolis, Ann Arbor and Athens regionals will compete in the other semifinal.

The meet will begin at 4 p.m. CDT in Minneapolis and will be hosted by the University of Minnesota at the Sports Pavilion.
