2013 recruiting class announced

PROVO, Utah – The BYU women’s golf team has announced that two prep golfers have signed national letters of intent to play golf for BYU beginning in the 2013 season.

Annie Yang of British Columbia, Canada and Brooklyn Anderson of Idaho Falls, Idaho will look to contribute to the BYU women’s golf program in the future.

"We are extremely happy and excited about our signees this fall," BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. "Both are very competitive and will augment that spirit in our program. Annie and Brooklyn are also high character individuals that will be great additions to the BYU community and will represent BYU in a great way. We look forward to bright futures for both girls as BYU Cougars."

Yang became an established PGA of British Columbia junior golfer, winning the PGA of BC Junior Championship in 2012 and being crowned the Junior Girls champion. In her last 10 events, Yang has finished in the top 10 eight times. She tied for second at the 2012 CJGA BC Fall Junior Golf Classic and finished tied for sixth at the 2012 AJGA Sunriver Junior Open.

"Annie is ranked as the No. 4 junior in Canada and was recruited by some very good programs," Roberts said. "She is a very hard worker and will be a valuable asset to the achievement of the goals I have for this program. She has performed well in some big events in the United States and Canada and we look for her to continue that at BYU."

Anderson has won multiple high school golf tournaments during the course of her career and was All-State in golf during her sophomore and junior years. She placed first at the Idaho Golf Association Juniors Weekly, shooting a personal best 70 (-2) and finished in ninth place at the 2012 Idaho 5A State Championship. In addition to excelling on the golf course, Anderson is a three year letterman in varsity soccer and basketball. She was named female soccer player of the year by the Post Register and 5A/4A High Country Conference Player of the Year in soccer.

"Brooklyn is an athlete," Roberts said. "She was the all-area MVP in Idaho HIgh School Soccer and also plays basketball at a high level. That athleticism has transitioned into her golf game as well. She has tremendous upside for our program. She has won many junior and high school tournaments in Idaho and we look for that development to continue."
