Day 2 Recap

HOLLISTER, Calif. – Using a strong final round, BYU senior Maggie Yuan finished tied for third at the West Coast Conference Championships on Wednesday.

Yuan carded a 3-over 75, following up rounds of 74 and 76 to lead the Cougars in their inaugural WCC golf tournament.

“Maggie was great today,” said BYU coach Carrie Roberts. “She almost had it, but just made a couple of bogeys at the end.”

Even after bogeys on three of the last four holes, Yuan still only finished one stroke behind the individual champion.

“I’m very proud of her,” Roberts said. “We needed her to be the rock and she was.”

BYU finished the 54-hole tournament with a 101-over-par 965 total. Pepperdine won the tournament for the 11th consecutive year. San Francisco placed second followed by Gonzaga, Seattle and Santa Clara. BYU finished sixth.

Other Cougars who participated included Amanda Keith, Annika Afoa, Lauren Atkinson and Maria Yacaman.

The tournament concludes the season for the Cougars with the NCAA Regionals May 10-12.

“The girls are going to go finish finals, go home and work hard during the summer and then we’ll be ready to go back at it,” Roberts said
