LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. -- Maggie Yuan led the BYU women's golf team with a 2-under 70 in the second round of the Mountain West Conference Championships Friday in Litchfield Park, Arizona.

BYU retained possession of third place going into the final round by carding a 6-over 294 in round two at the par-72 Wigwam Golf Resort. The Cougars are just eight strokes behind leader UNLV and five strokes behind second-place TCU.

"We shot well today and we are in perfect position," said BYU head coach Carrie Roberts. "It's going to be a really fun day tomorrow."

Yuan followed up a first-round 71 (-1) with a 2-under-par performance en route to moving into a tie with Ellis Keenan and Therese Koelbaek, both of UNLV, for first place. Yuan recorded birdies on her first and last holes, totaling four during the round.

"Maggie is doing really well and showing a lot of confidence," Roberts said.

Kelsey Vines moved up two spots from day one by shooting a 1-under 71 in round two. Vines sits tied for fourth, just two strokes behind teammate Yuan and the lead.

Senior Jade Bollinger carded two birdies in round two, posting a 4-over 76 to move into a tie for 12th place overall.

Annika Afoa is tied for 28th and Amanda Keith sits in 35th place after day two. Afoa shot a second-round 77 (+5) and Keith carded an 81 (+9) on day two.
