PROVO -- BYU women’s golf coach Carrie Roberts announced Monday that three prep golfers have committed to join the Cougars in 2011 by signing national letters of intent.

“Considering how late we got started in the recruiting process, I’d say we did very good for the class of 2011,” said BYU head coach Carrie Roberts, who was named head coach in July. “We expect great contributions from all of them during the next four years.”

Silvia Correa, a native of Bogota, Colombia, will join the strong BYU golf tradition after a decorated high school career that was highlighted by a Colombian National Junior Championship in 2008, a tournament in which she was named runner up in 2010.

In 2009 Correa was part of the South American Junior Championship Team and finished fourth in the US Kids Teens World Golf Championships.

Lauren Atkinson, a native of Bow, Wash., capped a successful junior career by finishing third at the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour Vancouver Island Series in September, shooting rounds of 75 and 78.

Rounding out the 2011 recruiting class is Gabby Gregory. A native of Alpharetta, Ga., Gregory placed third in the Class 5A Golf State Championships in May of 2010. Also recruited by Coastal Carolina and The University of South Carolina Upstate, Gregory comes from an athletic heritage. Her father, Lenny, played football for BYU from 1991-93.
