Two Cougars in Top 20 After Day One

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico (Sept. 17, 2010) – Senior Jade Bollinger and Junior Maggie Yuan both stand in the top-20 after the BYU women’s golf team solidified 11th place Thursday at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational.

The 7,248-yard, par 72 Championship Course at UNM was the host site as Bollinger started the day with a 2-under-par 71 to tie for fifth after the first round. She had four birdies and only two bogeys in the round and went on to shoot a 1-over 74 in round two to finish the day tied for seventh at 1-under-par.

Junior Maggie Yuan kept pace for the Cougars, shooting a 2-over 75, with two birdies in the first round. She improved on that mark in the second round by shooting a 1-over 74, finishing tied for 13th. Sophomore Amanda Keith also contributed during the first round with a 3-over 76 and end the day at +7.

The second round of the day brought improvement for senior Sara Romero and sophomore Annika Afoa. After shooting a first round 90, Romero came back strong in the second round to post a 9-over-par 82. Afoa improved on a 12-over-par 85 in round one by posting a 6-over 79 in round two.

Senior Emily Copier, who was golfing as an independent, shot an even-par 73 in the first round and an 8-over 81 in round two, finishing day one tied for 45th.

The Cougars take to the links again Saturday for the final day of competition with the shotgun start scheduled for 8 a.m. MDT.
