PROVO -- Director of Athletics Tom Holmoe has announced the hiring of Carrie Summerhays Roberts as the new head women’s golf coach at BYU.

Roberts played her college career at BYU from 1998 to 2002, where she was a four-time All-Conference award winner (three with the MWC and one with the WAC). Roberts garnered back-to-back MWC Golfer of the Year citations as a sophomore and as a junior.

“We are very excited to have Carrie join the athletic department staff,” said Holmoe. “She is one of the more decorated female golfers in school history. She has great experience in the golf business and we look forward to her leading our women’s golf program.”

During her collegiate career Roberts compiled six career victories, tying Pam Miller for the most all-time at BYU. As a sophomore she was named NGCA Honorable Mention All-America, and competed as an individual at the NCAA Championships where she placed 40th. As a senior, she received the Dale R. McCann Team Spirit Award presented by the Cougar Club, and placed third at the NCAA West Regional Championship.

Following her BYU career, Roberts became the first Utah woman to qualify for the LPGA Tour and played from 2002-04. She qualified for two U.S. Women’s Open Championships, and held the first-round lead at the Kellog-Keebler Classic in 2003.

In addition, Roberts was MVP of the U.S./Japan Cup competition and was a three-time Utah Match play champion. Most recently she was named a member of the MWC All-Decade Team in women’s golf.

“I’m excited to be back at my alma mater,” said Roberts. “BYU offers the best opportunities for student-athletes to succeed both on and off the golf course. I’m thrilled with the opportunity to work in golf again and especially with the administration and the student-athletes.”

Roberts graduated from BYU in 2002 with a degree in community health. The Heber, Utah, native is no stranger to golf. She is the daughter of Bruce Summerhays, a Senior PGA Tour veteran. Her brother Joseph and cousins David and Daniel both played collegiate golf at BYU. Daniel is currently playing on the Nationwide Tour and another cousin Boyd played on the PGA Tour.

Carrie is married to Cory Roberts. The couple currently resides in Lindon, Utah. They have a four-year old daughter, Mary, and are expecting a baby boy in September.
