LAS -- Sophomore Maggie Yuan led the BYU women’s golf team to an 11th-place finish Wednesday at the UNLV Spring Rebel Invitational. The Cougars were +37 overall (298-302-301—901) for the tournament after a final round score of 13-over-par.

“Overall, I thought we played pretty good,” said BYU head coach Robbie Bosco. “We got off to a slow start today, but then Jade (Bollinger) and Maggie (Yuan) got us back in it. We faltered a little on the last couple holes when the wind picked up, but everyone worked hard.”

Yuan tied for 10th place at the event, her best finish of the year. She went 2-over-par in the third round to finish with a total score of 220, four shots over par. Her final round featured two birdies and an eagle on the par-5 16th hole.

Junior Jade Bollinger also posted an eagle on the 16th hole during her round along with two birdies to finish four strokes over par on the day. Her total score of +7 tied her for 20th place overall.

Freshman Kelsey Vines tallied three birdies in her final round and also finished the day +4. She tied for 42nd place at 12 strokes over par in the field of 95 golfers. Fellow freshman Amanda Keith was right behind Vines at +14 for the tournament after notching a third-round score of 75, three strokes over par. The Cougars were rounded out by senior Sara Romero at +8 on the day and +25 for the event.

Up next, BYU will host the BYU at Entrada Classic in St. George, Utah, on March 22-23.

“Our goal is to improve each time we go out,” said Bosco. “We’re really excited to be able to host this tournament, and we’ve done well at it in the past. We’re going to work hard and tune-up our game and hopefully have a good showing down there.”
