Cougars Conclude Bruin Wave Invitational
MALIBU -- The BYU women’s golf team wrapped up competition at the Bruin Wave Invitational Wednesday, finishing tied for 15th. The Cougars were +99 (323-315-325—963) for the event after going +37 in third-round action.
“We were rusty for sure and didn’t play real well today,” said BYU head coach Robbie Bosco. “Kelsey (Vines) played extremely well, and I was very happy with her effort. We definitely have work to do as a team to work out some of the kinks, but hopefully this first tournament will help us get on the right track.”
Playing their first tournament since November, the Cougars tied with CSU-Northridge. No. 6 USC won the event at strokes over par followed by No. 2 Arizona State and No. 1 UCLA. The competitive field featured 11 ranked teams, including five top-10 squads.
Cougar freshman Kelsey Vines led BYU in the event and finished tied for 33rd overall at +9. Vines was 3-over-par on Wednesday with two birdies.
Junior Jade Bollinger posted the second-best BYU score at +29 overall to tie for 78th. Her Wednesday round was +11. Sophomore Maggie Yuan tied for 80th at +30 with a third-round score of 82. Junior Emily Copier went 35 strokes over par to tie for 89th while senior Shayla Forsey finished 93rd at +38.
BYU will now prepare to compete at the UNLV Spring Invitational beginning Monday.
