Golf Names 10 Players to Academic All-MWC Team

PROVO, Utah (June, 29, 2009) – Five male and five female athletes from the BYU men’s and women’s golf teams were named to the Academic All-Mountain West Conference team for the spring semester sports.

Robbie Fillmore, Jordan Hammer, Brady Johnson, Nick Killpack and Jordan Rogers were selected from the men’s golf team with Jade Bollinger, Shayla Forsey, Camille Gardner, Natalia Jimenez and Sara Romero being selected from the women’s team.

From the men’s team Johnson, a junior from Mill Bay, B.C., was also honored by the Golf Coaches Association of America when he was named to the PING West Region team. He finished the season by qualifying for an individual spot at the NCAA West Regional and scoring 13-over-par at the NCAA Championships.

The women’s team finished fifth at the Mountain West Conference Championships this season ending the tournament 74-over-par.

To be eligible for selection, the student-athletes must have finished at least one academic term at BYU while also maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.

A total of 772 student-athletes from BYU were named to the spring 2009 Academic All-MWC team, compared to the previous-high of 731 students in the spring of 2008 and 2006.
