Fifth-Place Ending at MWC Championships

SEASIDE -- A great effort at the 2009 Mountain West Conference Championships resulted in a fifth-place finish for the BYU women’s golf team.

The Cougars ended the tournament at 74-over-par following a 32-over final round Saturday afternoon at the par-72 Black Horse Golf Course, finishing four strokes ahead of Wyoming.

Jade Bollinger continued to play well for the team as she stayed in seventh place overall in the 35-member field at 12-over-par. She played a 6-over third round as she had one birdie on par-4 hole 16 and completed a team-high eight holes at par throughout the day.

Senior Natalia Jimenez finished in 16th place at 17-over-par after an 8-over final round. She had a team-high two birdies on the day (both on the back nine) and eight holes made at par.

Maggie Yuan tied for 21st overall at 19-over-par and also played an 8-over third round. The freshman scored one birdie on the par-5 hole 12 and totaled eight holes made at par.

Sophomore Sara Romero and Junior Shayla Forsey competed strong for the Cougars by completing multiple holes at even-par. Forsey had one birdie on par-4 hole seven, while Romero scored 11 holes at par, including seven in a row from holes six through 12.

New Mexico won the team competition at 39-over-par, while Jonelle Martinez of Wyoming won the individual honor at 5-over-par.
