GAINESVILLE -- Atypical cold and windy Florida weather took its toll on the teams participating in the Lady Gator Invitational as the BYU women’s golf team finished in 14th place.

“The leading teams were scoring above 70-over-par, so that shows the effect the weather had on everyone’s performance,” said BYU head coach Sue Nyhus.

The Cougars finished Tuesday’s final round at 45-over, just three strokes more than their second-round performance of 42-over-par as three players lowered their second-round scores at the par-70 Mark Bostick Golf Course.

Freshman Maggie Yuan had the best finish for the team, tying for 32nd overall at 25-over-par. She also made two birdies in the final round to go along with six holes at even-par.

Natalia Jimenez had two birdies in the third round and scored four holes at even-par. She made one of the birdies on hole seven, ending the tournament at 29-over-par.

Shayla Forsey ended the tournament with a team-leading eight holes shot at even-par in the third round, including three in a row on holes 13 through 15. She ended the tourney at 35-over-par. Sara Romero and Jade Bollinger rounded up the BYU roster by making six and seven holes at par, respectively. Both had three holes in a row at even-par.

“It was a good tournament for us,” Nyhus said. “We’ve got to continue working on our short game with the Mountain West tournament coming up.”

Auburn and Duke tied for first place, with Auburn winning in a shootout on the first hole. Full results can be reviewed on golfstat.com.

The MWC Women’s Golf Championship will be held April 16-18 in Seaside, Calif.
