FORT COLLINS -- The BYU women’s golf team finished the final round of play at the Ptarmigan Country Club in 10th place of 19 schools after shooting a solid +9 297.

The team was once again led by senior Natalia Jimenez, who shot a +2 74 in the final round to end up with even-par 216 in the final statistics. She finished tied for 15th in the individual rankings for the tournament, slipping a few spots from No. 11.

"They all had bright points in the tournament," said head coach Sue Nyhus. "They were all quite steady and performed well."

Freshman Maggie Yuan was impressive in her first collegiate tournament as she turned up with the No. 34 spot after shooting a +4 76 in the final round. Her final statistics came out to a +6 222, going from the No. 21 spot to the No. 34 overall ranking in the tournament.

Junior Shayla Forsey was most impressive in the final round as she went from shooting +9 in both the first and second rounds to a –1 71 in the final round, helping the team finish at +26. The University of Idaho fell a stroke behind BYU in the final holes to come in at No. 11.

"Shayla did a great job for us in the final round finishing at 1-under," Nyhus said.

Sara Romero and Jade Bollinger also competed in the tournament for the Cougars.

Cal-Berkeley’s Shannon Yocum finished in first place after shooting a –2 70 in the final round and –8 208 overall. Colorado’s Emily Childs was tied with Yocum after the second round but fell to –7 209 overall after completing a –1 71 in the final round. Cal defended its 2007 title at –18 with Colorado following at –12.

"There was a very strong field with a lot of good teams," Nyhus said. "This team has a lot of promise and we're looking forward to the next tournament."

The team will next appear in the Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque Sept. 18-20.
