Team Finishes Tied For Third

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (September 11, 2007)With a 27-over-par 299-297-295--891, No. 16 BYU tied for third place in their season opening tournament in Fort Collins, Colo., at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic.

The Cougars entered the final round of the tournament in third place among the twenty-team pool and held their position with another day's great performance from the team.

"We got good solid play from everyone today," said head coach Sue Nyhus. "It's a very impressive finish and everybody had a good day. This first tournament gives us a place to start working from and what to work on with each individual player."

Juli Erekson led BYU during the tournament, with a 74-75-72--221. Erekson finished the tournament with three birdies on the front nine, and three bogeys on the back nine to break even on the 72-par course. Her performance allowed her to move up the leaderboard where she tied for ninth.

Sara Romero also contributed to the team effort finishing the tournament 7-over-par. After shooting 78 on her first round, Romero shot 72 during the second round and 73 on the final day. Romero began the round even during her first eight holes, before she shot thee birdies and four bogeys.

BYU B-team player Daphne Vines tied for third with a 1-over-par 75-70-72--217, a personal best for her.

"Our B team did a great job as well, and it shows how deep our team is with both finishing in the top-10 in this tournament," added coach Nyhus.

The Cougars will next participate in The Preview on Sept. 24-26, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
