DENVER -- The BYU women's golf record book was rewritten Tuesday at the Ron Moore Invitational in Denver where BYU placed second.

The team scored a 279 (-9), which shattered the former 18-hole BYU team record of 286. The 54-hole team record also fell with the 867 total the team compiled.

Rachel Newren fired a final-round 67 to win the event individually by three shots. The 67 shot by Newren tied the course record. Newren's 206 also shattered the 54-hole BYU individual record by eight shots. In the process, Newren broke the 36-hole record with a 139. This is Newren's 20th top-20 appearance during her BYU playing career.

Ashley Childers joined Newren firing a 67 of her own, which tied the long-standing 18-hole record set in 1979 by Pam Miller. Childers ended up placing 20th at the tournament.

Cougars Juli Erekson and Natalia Jimenez also both placed in the top 20 at the Invitational.

"We made a run at Denver today," said BYU head coach Sue Nyhus. "But Denver had too big of a lead from all the records they set yesterday. This is a remarkable team. We are deep in potential and experience. We are fortunate and grateful that each member of our team has contributed to our success this year."

Next up, the Cougars will play in the Edean Invitational hosted by the University of Washington on Oct 8-10.
