Summerhays, Thron Lead BYU to Third-Place Finish
SPRINGVILLE -- BYU golfer Carrie Summerhays posted a second-place standing in the two-day BYU Golf Invitational to lead the Cougars to a third-place team finish Tuesday.
Summerhays finished nine above par with an overall score of 225 to claim individual second-place honors. Teammate Teal Thron also turned in a strong performance, finishing thirteen over par to take over fourth place.
The Cougars finished third as a team, behind UTEP and California. The University of Hawaii finished fourth.
UTEP golfer Kristen MacLaren took the individual title, bettering Summerhays by three strokes, in leading UTEP to victory. Melissa Mendoza, also of UTEP, took third.
The BYU Golf Invitational was held Monday and Tuesday at Hobble Creek Golf Course. Participants from sixteen schools were involved in the two day competition. Area school Weber State finished eighth overall, while conference opponents San Diego State and the University of Wyoming placed seventh and twelfth, respectively.
