BYU in 16th after First Day of Invitational

ALBUQUERQUE -- The BYU women's golf team is tied with Colorado State for 16th place in the Dick McGuire Invitational Golf Tournament after one day of play.

After one round, Cougars Adrianne Gibby and Summer Fenstermaker were the team's highest finishers, each with scores of 78 and tied for 43rd place. Overall, the team is tied for 16th in the field of 18 teams with a score of 317.

Carrie Summerhays, who placed second at last week's BYU Golf Invitational, is in 60th place after one day with a score of 79, six over par.

"We didn't make a lot of putts today," said coach Gary Howard. "We didn't hit our first putts very well and had a lot of five to eight foot putts for par."

Leading the tournament so far is the University of Arizona, in first place with an overall score of 294. Jenna Daniels of Arizona also shares the individual leader spot at three under par. Host and conference rival New Mexico is tied for sixth place.

Play will resume Friday morning, with the final round of play slated for Saturday morning. Results will be available daily on the official BYU athletics home page, www.byucougars.com.
