Ai Lian Lim and Ruby Chico compete in the 2000 World Cup of Golf

Berlin, Germany, (August 26, 2000) -- Two former BYU golfers competed in the World Amateur Team Championships in Germany this past week.

Ai Lian Lim, competing for her native Malaysia, shot 312 four-round total to lead her team to a 29th-place finish in the 40-team field, while Ruby Chico helped the Phillippines to a 31st-place finish after shooting 323.

Lim, a three-time All-Conference recipient, graduated from BYU in 1996 after earning WAC Player of the Year honors. Lim has won several amatuer titles including the Selanger Ladies Open in 1993, 1995; the Malaysian Open in 192, 1997, 1998, 1999; the South East Asia Games Championship in 1993, 1995 and the Asian Games Championships in 1994.

Chico was the first WAC Player of the Year in 1991 as she led BYU to the inaugural WAC Championship in women's golf. Chico also earned medalist honors at the High Country Athletic Conference Golf Championships in 1990 and has won numerous amatuer tournaments including the Phillipine Open in 1987, the Malaysian Open in 1989, and the South East Asia Games Championship in 1987.

The World Amateur Team Chamipionships, also known as the World Cup of Golf was held this year on the challenging Nick Faldo Course at the Sporting Club Berlin where France ran away with the team title. Norway´s Suzann Pettersen was the best individual player: With rounds of 69, 72, 71 and 73 and a tital score of 285 (-3) she was three strokes better than Korean´s Joo-Mi Kim and Maitena Alsuguren from France.

The first World Amateur Team Championship (Eisenhower Trophy) was held 1958 in St. Andrews/Scotland. The first Ladies Team Championship (Espirito Santo Trophy) took place 1964 in Paris-Saint Germain/France. Since 1966 both championships are being staged at the same venue on two consecutive weeks.
