Cougars in tenth after two rounds

Las Cruces, New Mexico--Lisa Dernick shot six-over-par to lead the BYU women's golf team after two rounds at Price's Give Em Five Intercollegiate in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Thanks to Carrie Summerhays' 72 and Adrianne Gibby's 75, BYU shot a season-low 301 and was in third place after the first round. The Cougars fell from third to tenth place after struggling in the second round.

"That first round shows the kind of golf we are capable of playing," BYU head coach Gary Howards said. "But I think a few of us got fatigued in the afternoon round and we didn't finish as strong as we needed to."

Dernick made birdie on three out of the last four holes putting her in 15th place after two rounds.

"I had a lot of birdie opportunities in the first round, but I couldn't convert," Dernick said. "I just stayed patient and it paid off."

Dernick and her teammates finish their fall season on Tuesday with the third and final round of the Price's Give Em Five Intercollegiate. TCU holds a five shot lead over host New Mexico State heading into the tomorrow's round.
