Mateo named to All-WCC First Team for third straight year
SAN MATEO, Calif. — Allysha Mae Mateo was named to the All-WCC First Team for the third straight year, the West Coast Conference announced Monday.
“Allysha Mae had one of the best seasons in our program's history,” said BYU head coach Carrie Roberts. “She played such consistent golf all year long, each week finishing inside the top 15. She has been an integral part of our team for the past five years and I look forward to all she’ll accomplish in the future.”
Mateo earned a 10-place finish at last week’s WCC Championship to cap a 2022-23 campaign in which she picked up her second collegiate win at the Miami Hurricane Invitational. This season, she also picked up 10 top-25 finishes, eight top 15s and four top 5s.
The fifth-year senior finished runner-up at the USF Intercollegiate, third at the FAU Paradise Invitational, fifth at the Causeway Invitational, sixth at the San Diego State Classic, ninth at the Avenue Spring Break Classic, 10th at the Riverside Classic and WCC Championship and 11th at Juli Inkster Meadow Club Invitational.
“The career Allysha has had is nothing short of remarkable,” said Roberts. “She is one of the best players and people to come through our program. She has been consistent since her sophomore year, and did an amazing job taking her game to the next level.”
The three-time WCC All-Academic Team honoree will graduate this week with a Master of Accountancy degree from BYU’s Marriott School of Business.
Mateo and the Cougars will learn if and where they will be competing in an NCAA Regional when the sites are announced on Wednesday. The selection show will air on the Golf Channel at 11 a.m. MDT on Wednesday, April 26.
