SAN MATEO, Calif. — BYU women's golfers Allysha Mae Mateo and Lila Galeai were named to the 2023 All-WCC Preseason Team while the Cougars were picked to finish second in the 2023 WCC Preseason Coaches’ Poll, Thursday.

“Allysha and Lila have always been steady contributors to our team's success,” said BYU head coach Carrie Roberts. “They have shown time and time again that they are deserving of this preseason award and I am excited to see what they do this season. We expect great things from them.”

Mateo has earned preseason and post-season honors in each of the past three seasons (2021, 2022, 2023) and was named the WCC Golfer of the Year in 2021. The fifth-year senior picked up three top-20 finishes during the fall campaign including a runner-up finish at the USF Intercollegiate and her second collegiate victory at the Miami Hurricane Invitational.

Galeai enters the spring season coming off three-straight top-25 finishes, including 15th at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational and an 8th-place finish at the Miami Hurricane Invitational. The junior earned All-WCC Preseason honors for the second-straight year and will headline a BYU team that is poised to make a run at the WCC Championship.
