LAWRENCE, Kan. — BYU women’s golf held a share of eighth after carding a 317 in the opening round of the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational on Monday.

“It was a battle out there today,” said BYU assistant coach Lea Garner. “It was cold and windy which made it very difficult to score. Lila and Kerstin were able to put together some good rounds by positioning themselves well off the tee and hitting to the right spots on the greens.”

Lila Galeai led the Cougars in round one as she fired a 2-over par 74 to grab a share of 10th going into round two. The junior from Orem carded three birdies in her opening round.

Kerstin Fotu was just 1-shot back of Galeai as she posted a 3-over 75 during her opening 18. The Lone Peak product recorded two-birdies on a brisk Kansas afternoon.

Annick Haczkiewicz, in her first start of the season, shot an opening 83 while fellow senior Allysha Mae Mateo turned in an 85. The scoring for the Cougars was rounded out by freshman Berlin Long who posted an 87 on day one.

The second round was suspended because of darkness and will be completed tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. CDT. The Cougars have between three and five holes left to complete their second rounds.

Live scoring for tomorrow’s rounds will be available at golfstat.com with score updates posted on the BYU women’s golf Instagram and Twitter accounts.
