PROVO, Utah — After a seventh-place finish in Tulsa, BYU women’s golf looks to get back on track at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational at Lawrence Country Club on Oct. 17-18.

“It’s taken us longer than expected to find our groove this season,” said BYU head coach Carrie Roberts. “We feel that we are continuing to put the pieces together and we’re looking to finish the semester strong.”

Lila Galeai, Allysha Mae Mateo, Kerstin Fotu, Berlin Long and Annick Haczkiewicz will make the start for the Cougars as they search for their first top-3 finish of the young season.

BYU will take on host Kansas, Arizona, Boston College, Iowa, Kent State, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Mexico State, Notre Dame, Sam Houston State, Tulane, UTSA, Washington State and Wisconsin in the 54-hole tournament.

The championship will be played on the 6,125-yard, par-72 Lawrence Country Club with 36-holes being played on Monday, Oct. 17 with the 18-hole final round being played on Tuesday, Oct. 18.

Nebraska is the reigning champion of the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational as the Cornhuskers carded rounds of 290-291-304—885 to take home a six-shot victory over Sam Houston State. Nicole Hansen and Lindsey Thiele of Nebraska shared the individual title after shooting a 3-over total to win by one.

“We need to have better starts to give us a chance going into the final day,” said BYU assistant coach Lea Garner. “To do that, a key for us will be to improve the way we make adjustments early in rounds. After a solid last 36 holes in Tulsa, I’m excited to see how the girls will keep that momentum going.”

Live scoring for the championship will be available at with score updates posted on the BYU women’s golf Instagram and Twitter accounts.
