Cougars finish 12th at Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — BYU women’s golf posted a final round 295 to finish 12th at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship on Tuesday.

No. 5 Wake Forest (286-273-272—831) fired a 12-under-par final round to come from six-shots back of 36-hole leader, Virginia to win the title by three shots. All four counting scores for the Demon Deacons on the final day were sub-70 to help capture the team title.

No. 35 UCF (275-280-279—834) finished its final 18 holes at 5-under-par to earn a runner-up finish and best No. 9 Virginia (277-276-283—836), who finished third. Kent State (284-278-287—849) finished fourth followed by No. 19 Michigan State (294-284-279—857) who rounded out the top-5.

The Cougars finished in 12th place after carding rounds of 294-296-295—885.

"This wasn't our best tournament," said BYU head coach Carrie Roberts. "We have the next two weeks to get back to work, assess where we can improve, and find ways to perform better. The next few weeks will be key in helping us finish the fall season strong." 

Allysha Mae Mateo and Kerstin Fotu were the low finishers for the Cougars in Tennessee, finishing in a tie for 47th. Mateo and Fotu recorded rounds of 75-75-72—222 and 72-75-75—222 respectively.

Lila Galeai shot 74-75-75—224 over the 54-hole event to finish in a tie for 55th. Adeline Anderson had rounds of 73-79-73—225 to finish one shot behind Galeai in a tie for 59th, and Annick Haczkiewicz recorded rounds of 75-71-78—227 to wrap up the BYU scoring.

The Cougars have a break before returning to action at the Dale McNamara Invitational, Oct. 10-11 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
