Mateo earns runner-up finish, Cougars finish fifth
SAN FRANCISCO — Allysha Mae Mateo shot a 3-under-par 68 in the final round to finish runner-up at the USF Intercollegiate as the Cougars finish fifth on Tuesday.
After two bogeys on the front nine, Mateo went on a birdie barrage as she carded five birdies on her inward nine to get to 3-under on the day, 8-under for the tournament and grab a season-opening runner-up finish.
“I am very proud of Allysha Mae and her resilience today especially with a rough start,” said BYU head coach Carrie Roberts. “She was focused, determined and, as we all know, is a great player. I am extremely proud of her for going for it this week and having a very good finish to start the season.”
