Cougars finish seventh at NCAA Franklin Regional

FRANKLIN, Tenn. — BYU women’s golf fired an 8-under-par 280 in the final round of the NCAA Franklin Regional to finish seventh at the Vanderbilt Legends Club on Wednesday.

The Cougars matched their second lowest 18-hole round in program history as four players posted scores of par or better on the final day. BYU’s rounds of 298-301-280—879 secured its highest finish at an NCAA regional since the 2015-16 season.

“I am really proud of these girls, how they fought all week and finished the season with a fantastic round today,” said BYU head coach Carrie Roberts. “Obviously we would have loved to advance to the national championship, but I am so proud of this team’s performance in Franklin and their growth throughout the season as a whole.”

No. 35 Vanderbilt shot 9-under in the final round to win the regional and advance to the national championship. The Commodores carded rounds of 288-281-279—848 to win by 8-shots over No. 9 Alabama who finished with rounds of 287-287-282—856.

No. 4 Wake Forest's 6-under-par final day secured their spot in at the national championship, shooting 292-287-282—861 over the 54-holes. No. 15 Texas A&M came from behind, posting a 5-under final round to best Duke for the final qualifying spot. The Aggies fired rounds of 289-295-283—867.

BYU finished the event with rounds of 298-301-280—879 to finish in seventh, besting No. 27 Oregon State by seven shots in the final round.

Allysha Mae Mateo led the way for the Cougars, finishing 19th after posting rounds of 74-74-69—217. Mateo shot 3-under in the final round including five birdies and two bogeys.

Lila Galeai finished her first trip to an NCAA regional with a 3-under 69 in the final round. Galeai carded rounds of 73-77-69—219 notch a 21st place finish after making six birdies and three bogeys on the final day.

Annick Haczkiewicz finished in 30th place after rounds of 75-76-70—221. The senior from Las Vegas carded three birdies and a lone bogey on day three to move up 12-spots on the leaderboard.

Kerstin Fotu finished 40th after an even-par 72 in round three for a 54-hole total of 78-74-72—224. Fotu made five birdies including making a 60-footer on the par-4 8th hole, her 17th hole of the day. Adeline Anderson rounded out the scoring for the Cougars with rounds of 76-81-76—233.
