Cougars tied for ninth entering NCAA Regional final round

FRANKLIN, Tenn. — BYU (298-301—599) women’s golf sits in a tie for ninth at the NCAA Franklin Regional after a 13-over second round on Tuesday.

“We just haven’t played our best golf this week,” said head coach Carrie Roberts. “We haven’t been able to find our groove yet, but we have 18 more holes to bounce back, move up the board and see if we can make some noise.”

No. 35 Vanderbilt (288-281—569) jumped into the lead after a 7-under-par performance on Tuesday and leads No. 9 Alabama (287-287—574) by five shots entering the final round.

No. 21 Duke (287-291—578) is nine shots off the pace after a 3-over-par second round that puts them at 2-over for the tournament. No. 4 Wake Forest (292-287—579) sits at 3-over par through two rounds and is currently holding the fourth NCAA qualifying spot going into the final 18-holes tomorrow.

No. 15 Texas A&M (289-295—584) dropped out of the top-4 after a 7-over par second round and is five back of Wake Forest for the last qualifying spot. BYU sits in a tie for ninth with Boston University at 23-over.

Allysha Mae Mateo (74-74—148) jumped three spots into the top-25 after a 2-over-par second round. Mateo carded six bogeys and four birdies on her way to posting back-to-back 74’s.

Freshman Lila Galeai (73-77—150) sits in a tie for 36th after a second round 77. Annick Haczkiewicz (75-76—151) is one back of Galeai and is tied for 42nd after a 4-over 76. 

Kerstin Fotu (78-74—152) sits alone in 48th at 8-over par after a 2-over-par 74, while Adeline Anderson (76-81—157) completed the scoring for the Cougars with an 81 in round two.

The Cougars tee off at 8 a.m. CDT in the final round tomorrow and will be paired with Oregon State and Augusta. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
