Cougars in second at WCC Championships
HENDERSON, Nev. — BYU women's golf sits in second after shooting 15-over-par on a windy first day at the West Coast Conference Championship at Reflection Bay Golf Club.
The Cougars trail Pepperdine by four shots entering the second round after the Waves posted an 11-over par 303 in round one. San Francisco holds the third spot shooting a 17-over 305 during their opening 18.
Santa Clara sits in fourth at 21-over par while the defending champion Gonzaga Bulldogs round out the first-round scoring with a 36-over-par 324.
Annick Haczkiewicz and Allysha Mae Mateo led the Cougars on day one posting matching 75's. Their 3-over-par rounds gives them a share of second place with Santa Clara's Borina Sutikto and San Francisco's Toni Sottile. The four are five shots off the pace set by Pepperdine's Lauren Gomez who fired a 2-under-par 70.
BYU freshman Addie Anderson is one back of her senior teammates after a 4-over 76 in her first round at the conference championship. Anderson sits in a tie for sixth, six shots off the first round lead.
Lila Galeai and Kerstin Fotu are seven shots off the pace after carding a pair of 77's on the opening day.
