Cougars finish fourth at Gunrock Invitational; Stanford sets NCAA scoring record
SACRAMENTO, CA — No. 25 BYU women’s golf posted a 6-under (282) final round at the Gunrock Invitational to finish in fourth place, Tuesday.
Top-ranked Stanford (265-277-272—814) put together a tournament for the ages as they set the new NCAA 54-hole scoring record by shooting 50-under par.
All of Stanford’s five scoring players posted sub-par 54-hole totals in the record setting win. Rachel Heck, the No. 22 player in the county, shot 18-under par to grab the individual title and set a 54-hole school scoring record. Her teammate Rose Zhang, the number one player in the country, finished just behind Heck at 14-under par.
Washington (284-276-289—849) finished in second at 15-under, Iowa State (284-286-281—851) finished two back of the Huskies at 13-under and BYU (286-290-282—858) finished in fourth at 6-under par. WCC foe San Francisco (291-283-291—865) rounded out the top-5 at 1-over par for the tournament.
The Cougars had three players finish in the top-25. Allysha Mae Mateo led the way for the Cougars making seven birdies in a nine-hole stretch on her way to posting a 3-under final round. Mateo had rounds of 71-74-69—214 to finish in a tie for 16th.
Lila Galeai finished tied with Mateo after rounds of 68-74-72—214. This marks Galeai’s fourth top-25 finish of the year and seventh of her young career.
Annick Haczkiewicz continued her consistent play, posting a 2-under final round to notch her fifth top-25 finish in six starts this season. The senior fired rounds of 74-71-70—215, improving in each round, to finish tied for 21st.
Kerstin Fotu finished tied for 42nd with rounds of 73-78-71—221. After rounds of 77-71-76—224, freshman Addie Anderson finished tied for 51st.
Alexa Udon, who competed as an individual, finished at 5-over par after rounds of 72-74-75—221 to finish tied for 39th.
The Cougars next tee it up at the Juli Inkster Meadow Club Intercollegiate in Fairfax, California, March 7-8.
