BYU sweeps Texas State Invitational capturing the team and individual crown

KYLE, Texas — BYU women’s golf won the Texas State Invitational title Tuesday at Plum Creek Golf Course behind a final round 68 and the individual title from senior Annick Haczkiewicz.

“I am super proud of how this team competes and steps up when we need it most,” said head coach Carrie Roberts. “These girls are tough; they fight and know what they need to do get the job done.”

BYU took a one-shot lead into the final round and never looked back. The Cougars posted rounds of 297-295-290—882 to win the team title by nine shots over the Tulsa s (295-298-298—891). The victory marks BYU's third win in five events during the 2021-22 season.

Incarnate Word finished third (299-303-292—894) while Kennesaw State (302-307-291—900) and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (307-296-297—900) finished tied for fourth to round out the top five.

Individual

Annick Haczkiewicz finished at 5-under par after carding rounds of 68-75-68—211 to capture the individual title by three shots over Tulsa’s Lilly Thomas (73-71-70—214). 

"Annick has always been committed to improving and finding a way to get it done,” Roberts said. “She is an absolute gamer and it was so fun to watch her compete and win this week.”

Haczkiewicz matched her career low not once, but twice in three rounds to set a new career mark for her lowest 54-hole total and grab her first individual victory as a Cougar.

"I am stoked to see Annick get this win," said assistant coach Lea Garner. "It has been a long time coming for her and she has worked extremely hard to get to this point." 

Jennifer Herbst of Sam Houston State posted the lowest 18-hole round of the tournament with a final round 65 to take third place (75-75-65—215) while Texas A&M's Ellie Szeryk finished in fourth with rounds of 71-72-73—216.

BYU's Allysha Mae Mateo fired rounds of 77-68-72—217 to finish in solo fifth place, while teammate Addie Anderson finished tied for 11th at 8-over par 224, the best finish of her young career.

Lila Galeai finished in a tie for 28th after rounds of 75-78-78—231 while Kerstin Fotu rounded out the scoring for BYU by posting rounds of 81-77-78—236.

The Cougars have a few weeks off before they travel to Del Paso Country Club in Sacramento, California, for the Gunrock Invitational on Feb. 28-March 1.
