Broken Arrow, Okla. — BYU women’s golf shot 2-over par as a team in the first round of the Dale McNamara Invitational, putting the Cougars just one-shot back of first-place UNLV through 18-holes play.

"We had a solid first round today," said BYU head coach Carrie Roberts. "Annick and Lila really stepped up. Annick had her distances dialed in and Lila made some great saves to stay under par."

Annick Haczkiewicz shot a 3-under 69 in the opening round to lead the Cougars and take sole possession of third in the individual scoring. The senior carded five birdies and two bogeys in her opening round.

Lila Galeai found herself one shot back of her teammate after posting three birdies and a lone bogey on her way to a 2-under 70. The sophomore sits in a tie for fourth.

Allysha Mae Mateo is tied for 23rd after firing a 2-over 74, while Adeline Anderson shot 77 and is tied for 41st.  Kerstin Fotu rounded out the scoring for the Cougars shooting 80 to tie for 63rd.

BYU freshman Alexa Udom, playing as an individual, posted a 3-over 75 and finds herself in a tie for 28th after her first tournament round as a Cougar.

"It was pretty windy today but manageable," said Roberts. "We need to tighten up a few things and minimize the mistakes to put us in contention tomorrow."

UNLV leads the field at 289, followed by the Cougars at 290. Nebraska holds the third spot at 293, followed by Sam Houston and New Mexico who are tied for fourth at 297.

The second round got underway on Monday afternoon but was suspended due to darkness. The field will finish the second round on Tuesday morning, followed by the 18-hole final round.
