STANFORD, Calif. – BYU’s Allysha Mae Mateo carded a 2-over 73 to improve her first-round score by one shot in the second round at the NCAA Stanford Regional on Tuesday.

“It’s always nice to score better in the second round,” said BYU head coach Carrie Roberts. “Allysha Mae still left a couple of shots out there, so she will need a good round tomorrow.”

Mateo remains tied for 44th in the individual standings with a two-round score of 5-over 74-73—147. The junior from Honolulu, Hawaii is tied with Marina Escobar Domingo of No. 7 seed Florida and Jordyn Parr of No. 14 seed San Jose State.

Among the field of five individual competitors, Mateo trails Brigitte Thibault of Fresno State by four shots (143) while holding a two-shot lead over Cal State Fullerton’s Brittany Shin (149), a four-shot advantage over Long Beach State’s Holland Shourds (151) and nine shots over Utah Valley’s Victoria Estrada (156).

The three individuals with the lowest scores from non-advancing teams will move-on to the NCAA National Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona on May 21-26.

Angeline Ye and Rachel Heck of Stanford are tied for first at 7-under 135 and have fueled the host-team Cardinal to a commanding 22-shot lead in the team standings at 272-271—543 (-25).

Mateo tees off in the final round of the 54-hole tournament at 8:50 a.m. PDT on Wednesday. Follow the scoring from round three at Stanford with live updates from Golfstat.
