Women's golf to compete at Lone Star Invitational
HUMBLE, Texas – BYU women’s golf will wrap up its regular season at the Lone Star Invitational at the Golf Club of Houston on April 12-13.
The Cougars are coming off top-5 finishes in each of their last three tournaments, including a season-best fourth place finish at the BYU Spring Classic on March 15-16
The Lone Star Invitational allows for six golfers to compete from each team, with the top-four scores taken for the overall team score each day.
Allysha Mae Mateo, Lila Galeai, Naomi Soifua, Kerstin Fotu, Cynthia Tu and Annick Haczkiewicz will compete for the Cougars in Humble.
Mateo (No. 93) is one of three WCC golfers ranked in Golfstat’s Division 1 top-250 poll, and the only in the top-100. The junior from Honolulu has led BYU in scoring through seven of eight tournaments this season and is coming off her fourth top-3 finish of the season at the Spring Classic.
Galeai recorded a career-best finish at the Spring Classic with a tie for ninth after she fired a 2-under 70 in the final round.
Haczkiewicz will be competing with the team for the first time since the Mercer Invitational in Macon, Georgia on Nov. 9-10.
No. 20 Houston hosts the Lone Star Invitational and enters the tournament with one of the nation’s top golfers in Karen Fredgaard, who is currently ranked No. 7.
