HURRICANE, Utah – BYU women’s golf will host its annual spring tournament at Sand Hollow Golf Course on March 15-16.

The BYU Spring Classic will begin with 36 holes on Monday at 8:15 a.m. MDT. Follow the scoring live with Golfstat.

The Cougars are coming off back-to-back top-5 tournament finishes following Naomi Soifua’s season-best performance at the Juli Inkster at Meadow Club Invitational in Fairfax, California on March 8-9.

BYU will welcome a field of 13 opponents to Sand Hollow Golf Course, including familiar foes Texas Tech and Iowa, WCC-rival San Francisco and in-state foes Utah Valley, Southern Utah and Weber State.

The Cougars faced Texas Tech at the Trinity Forest Invitational in Dallas on Feb. 1-2. There, the Red Raiders finished 14 shots ahead of BYU and took fifth. Texas Tech enters the BYU Spring Classic after winning the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational in San Antonio on March 9-10.

BYU saw success against San Francisco at the Meadow Club, finishing 25 shots ahead of the co-hosting Dons.

Nine golfers ranked in the latest Golfstat Division 1 Players poll, including BYU’s Allysha Mae Mateo, will compete in Hurricane. The group is headlined by Southern Utah’s Chanikan Youngyuan, currently ranked No. 1 nationally.

BYU hosted its 2020 spring tournament at Entrada at Snow Canyon in St. George, Utah. There, the Cougars finished third with a three-round score of 302-304-293—899. North Texas won the tournament, with Iowa in second. Allysha Mae Mateo achieved her third career top-3 finish in the 2020 BYU at Entrada Classic with a three-round score of 74-71-73—218.
