Mateo wins playoff for Utah Women's Stroke Play Championship

Mateo wins golf championship

BOUNTIFUL, Utah – BYU women's golfer Allysha Mae Mateo birdied the third playoff hole to win the Utah Women's Stroke Play Championship at the Bountiful Ridge Golf Course on Tuesday.

Mateo shot a first-round 67 and then a 70 in the second round to tie 2018 Utah Women's State Amateur champion Tess Blair of Sacramento State at 137 and force a playoff. Mateo finished the 36-hole tournament at seven-under. 

In addition to Mateo, Cougar golfers Naomi Soifua and Kerstin Fotu were right in the mix, with Soifua finishing with a six-under-par 138 to take third place and Fotu tied for fourth with a four-under-par 140.
