CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – BYU women's golfer Allysha Mae Mateo was named a 2019-20 WGCA All-American Scholar, announced Monday by the Women's Golf Coaches Association.

Mateo earned the Cougars’ top GPA with a 3.97 with plans to major in business.

Just a sophomore during the 2019-20 season, Mateo secured the first tournament win of her college career at Coeur d’Alene, carding a career-best 212 (-1). The Honolulu product went on to tie for second in her following event, the Ihlanfeldt Invite, and recorded two additional top-5 finishes at The Gold Rush and the Entrada Classic. In all, Mateo tallied five top-15 finishes on the year and boasted a 72.8 stroke average, the second lowest in program history.

The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50. A total of 1,401 women’s collegiate golfers were recognized with the honor.
