SAN BRUNO, Calif. — Allysha Mae Mateo was named to the 2019-20 West Coast Conference Women’s Golf All-Academic Team, the league announced Thursday.
Mateo earned the Cougars’ top GPA with a 3.97 with plans to major in business. Senior Anna Kennedy, an exercise and wellness major, also earned an honorable mention.
Just a sophomore, Mateo secured the first tournament win of her college career at Coeur d’Alene, carding a career-best 212 (-1). The sophomore from Honolulu went on to tie for second in her following event, the Ihlanfeldt Invite, and recorded two additional top-5 finishes at The Gold Rush and the Entrada Classic. In all, Mateo tallied five top-15 finishes on the year and boasted a 72.8 stroke average, the second lowest in program history.
At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to their team.
