Cougars fall to Washington State, Cal State San Marcos at Lamkin Invitational

RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. — The BYU women’s golf team fell to Washington State (4.5-0.5) and Cal State San Marcos (3-2) on day one of the match-play Lamkin Invitational.

“We had a rough day today,” BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. “We need to get the rust off and bring it tomorrow.”

The Cougars lost to Washington State 4.5-0.5 in their first matchup of the day, with Annick Haczkiewicz picking up BYU’s only points after finishing all-square with Marie Lund-Hansen in their head-to-head match. The loss dropped BYU to the consolation bracket, where they were paired up against Cal State San Marcos.

Haczkiewicz recorded four birdies en route to picking up a 3&2 win against Jaime Jacob of Cal State San Marcos in the Cougars’ second matchup of the day. Naomi Soifua also tallied four birdies in her 3&1 win over Emily Lichty. As a team, however, BYU fell 3-2 to Cal State San Marcos.

The Cougars will play a third and final round tomorrow against UC Irvine in the seventh-place matchup. Live stats and the leaderboard are available on BirdieFire.com.
