BYU Athletics has published a new entry in The Athletes’ Journal — a series featuring Cougar athletes telling their story in their own words.
Allysha Mae Mateo, a sophomore from Honolulu, Hawaii, on the BYU women’s golf team, shares how her connection with fellow Hawaii native Rose Huang led Mateo to BYU and allowed the two of them to be college teammates during the 2018-19 season. Mateo, who won her first collegiate tournament in September of this year, also expounds on how she and the rest of the team are focusing on what it takes to establish and maintain a winning culture.
The Athletes’ Journal series regularly features the unique perspectives of BYU student-athletes throughout the year. The series provides in-depth insight into the lives of members of BYU’s intercollegiate sports programs.
