BYU tied for seventh after first round of Wahine Invitational

KAPOLEI, Hawai’i — BYU women’s golf shot a 300 (+12) in Monday's first round of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational to finish the day tied for seventh. 

“We have some work to do,” BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. “We need to eliminate our mistakes and make some more birdies.”

Naomi Soifua led the way for the Cougars Monday, finishing the day tied for 19th individually after carding a two-over 74. Annick Haczkiewicz shot a team-high four birdies on her way to a first-round 75 (+3), ending the day tied for 27th. Kerstin Fotu also posted a three-over 75 and recorded a tournament-high 15 pars.

Allysha Mae Mateo currently sits tied for 38th after carding a first-round 76 (+4), followed by Anna Kennedy, who is tied for 64th after posting an 81 (+9).

BYU heads into tomorrow’s second round 11 strokes behind current-leader Sam Houston State. Sacramento State sits in second after shooting a 290 (+2), followed by in-state opponent Weber State, which carded a first-round 294 (+6).

The Cougars will play another 18 holes tomorrow, followed by a third and final round on Wednesday. Live stats and the leaderboard can be found at GolfStat.com.
