BYU tied for fourth after two rounds at Coeur d'Alene

COUER D’ALENE, Idaho — The BYU women’s golf team carded the lowest second-round score Monday to finish day one of the Coeur d’Alene Collegiate tied for fourth.

“It was nice to have the best second round score today,” BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. “The girls really finished strong and I’m proud of how they hung in there.”

After shooting a combined 299 (+15) in the first round, the Cougars improved their second-round score by 13 strokes, posting a 286 (+2). Naomi Soifua and Kerstin Fotu led the second-round surge for BYU, both improving their totals by seven strokes from rounds one to two. Soifua fired a team-low 69 (-2) in the second round after posting a 76 (+5) in the first to finish the day tied for 12th while Fotu shot a 71 (E) after a 78 (+7) in round one.

Allysha Mae Mateo finished day one with a team-low 144 (+2), shooting a 70 (-1) in the first round and 74 (+3) in the second. She currently sits tied for 7th place. Annick Haczkiewicz finished the day tied for 21st after shooting a combined 147 (+5), followed by Fotu and Anna Kennedy, who are currently tied for 33rd and 78th places, respectively.

Tournament host and fellow West Coast Conference member Gonzaga currently leads the 16-team field, holding a 12-stroke advantage over second place teams Nevada and Idaho. Utah Valley ended the day tied for 15th.
