BYU moves into second place on day two of WCC Championships

SPOKANE, Wash. – After improving by seven strokes on day two, the BYU women's golf team moved into second place at the West Coast Conference Championships at Manito Golf & Country Club on Friday.

"We have put ourselves in good position for tomorrow's final round," BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. "I am proud of how the girls battled today."

At a combined 25-over-par after a 293 on Friday, BYU is just one shot behind the leader, Pepperdine, and one stroke ahead of Gonzaga. San Francisco is close behind in fourth at 28-over while Santa Clara is in fifth (+52). 

Leading the Cougars is Naomi Soifua, who is tied for fourth place individually after shooting another 73 on Friday to match her first-round score. She is four-over and just two shots off the leader, Hira Naveed of Pepperdine. 

Rose Huang is in eighth place at six-over after a second-round 73. Allysha Mae Mateo and Annick Haczkiewicz are tied for 11th overall at nine-over after carding a 74 and 73, respectively.

Tied for 20th overall is Anna Kennedy at 12-over after two rounds and a 79 on Friday. 

BYU will play its final round on Saturday in hopes to claim its fourth consecutive WCC championship. Live scoring is available on GolfStat.com.
