BYU saves the best for final round at Hawkeye-El Tigre Invitational

PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico – The BYU women's golf team played its best golf in the final round to finish in seventh place at the Hawkeye-El Tigre Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

"It was nice to see our best team score today," BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. "Annick (Haczkiewicz), Naomi (Soifua) and Rose (Huang) all played well the last couple days."

The team improved round-by-round at the invitational, starting with a 308, a 299 and then shot a combined 295 (+7) in today's final round of 18 holes. 

Arizona led the entire tournament, finishing with a pair of 286s and a final round with 282 (-6) – a team best score among 12 programs at the event. The Wildcats finished at 10-under to take first place. 

Rose Huang finished in 14th place after a final round of 73 (+1). Two other Cougars matched her 73 in the final round, including Naomi Soifua and Annick Haczkiewicz who finished tied for 16th and 26th, respectively. 

Tied for 46th, Allysha Mae Mateo also played her best 18 holes of the event with a 76 (+4) while Anna Kennedy carded an 81 (+9) to finish 66th overall. 

Playing as an individual, Maria Bernal Clavijo posted an 82 (+10) to close out the tournament, finishing tied for 43rd among the individual golfers. 

BYU travels to Texas to play in The Bruzzy Challenge on April 1-2 at the Lantana Golf Club. Live stats will be available on Golfstat.com.
