SEAL BEACH, Calif. –  BYU women's golf played well enough for fifth place after two rounds of the Gold Rush tournament at Old Ranch Country Club Monday night.

"I'm really happy to see Anna (Kennedy) and Naomi (Soifua) play so well in the second round," BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. "I love that we improved. We keep getting better and look forward to tomorrow."

The Cougars shot a 297 (+9) in the first round and 296 (+8) in the second. They were one of just three teams in the 15-team field to break 300 in both rounds.

Naomi Soifua paced BYU and tied for the fifth-best overall score with an even-par on the day. Rose Huang finished three-over par. Anna Kennedy's even-par in the second round put her at five-over for the tournament. Allysha Mae Mateo went 11-over. In her first collegiate tournament, Maria Bernal Clavijo posted a 13-over.

West Coast Conference foes Gonzaga and Santa Clara are in 7th and 12th place, respectively.

The tournament will conclude with a final 18-hole round tomorrow. Live scoring will be available at GolfStat.com.
